Chelsea make decision over Christopher Nkunku comeback
Chelsea have decided to take ‘no risks’ over Christopher Nkunku’s injury comeback and he is not expected to feature against Manchester City, according to reports.
Nkunku is still waiting to make his debut after he signed for the Blues in July, with the west Londoners paying £52m to bring him in from German side RB Leipzig.
Chelsea fans are desperate to see Nkunku in action following his impressive stint at Leipzig, where he registered 70 goals and 56 assists across 172 games.
But a serious knee injury has ruled him out since his switch to Stamford Bridge and Mauricio Pochettino confirmed last week that Nkunku was still unavailable.
Chelsea do not want to risk making Nkunku’s injury any worse and it is reported that the club are planning to have him back after the next international break.
In August, Nkunku admitted he was ‘so disappointed’ with his injury and vowed to ‘come back stronger’.
‘As you can imagine, I’m so disappointed not to be able to be with my team-mates during the start of the season,’ the 25-year-old France international posted on Instagram.
‘It’s hard not to have been able to meet you guys at the Bridge. I will work hard to come back stronger. It’s only a matter of time.’
In better news for Chelsea, Enzo Fernandez is expected to be available for selection against City this weekend after his bruising night against Tottenham.
The Blues sealed a 4-1 win at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in a chaotic Monday night clash.
