Benjamin Mendy launches ‘multi-million-pound’ claim against Manchester City

Benjamin Mendy has launched a “multi-million-pound” claim against Manchester City over unpaid wages.

The former City defender, who now plays for French club Lorient, has claimed ‘unauthorised deductions from wages’ after he was charged with rape and sexual assault in 2021.

In July, Mendy was found not guilty of one count of rape and one count of attempted rape by a jury in a retrial at Chester Crown Court.

He was previously found not guilty of six counts of rape and one charge of sexual assault relating to four women in January.

Mendy is seeking the return of pay up until the end of his contract with City which expired in June 2023.

A statement provided to Sky Sports said: ‘Nick De Marco KC (instructed by Laffer Abogados (Madrid) is acting for the former Manchester City player Benjamin Mendy in a multi-million-pound claim for unauthorised deductions from wages.

‘Manchester City FC failed to pay Mr Mendy any wages at all from September 2021, following Mr Mendy being charged with various offence all of which he was subsequently acquitted of, until the end of his contract in June 2023.

‘The claim will come before an Employment Tribunal.’

Manchester City are yet to comment.

Mendy joined City in 2017, joining the club from Monaco in a £52million deal.

The left-back won three Premier League titles at the Etihad and was part of the France squad that won the World Cup in 2018.
