Chelsea ready to offload three players in January… including one star who only joined a year ago
Chelsea are prepared to let a number of players leave the club in January including Noni Madueke, just a year on from his arrival at Stamford Bridge.
The Blues spend £450million during the summer transfer window on 13 new players but Mauricio Pochettino suggested the club may need to be active in January following their 2-0 loss to Everton on Sunday.
The result leaves them 12 in the Premier League, already 18 points behind league leaders Liverpool.
Top of Chelsea’s wish-list is a new striker with Napoli star Victor Osimhen and Brentford’s Ivan Toney among their targets. But faced with Financial Fair Play restrictions, the club will not be able to spend as freely as they have done in previous windows without selling players first.
21-year-old Madueke is among those who could leave, ESPN report.
The England Under-21 international was signed from PSV Eindhoven last January, a signing that Graham Potter is thought to have heavily pushed for.
The winger has struggled for game time under Pochettino, starting just one game this season.
The report adds a loan move could also be possible should the right offer come in.
Elsewhere, Trevoh Chalobah is expected to leave. Bayern Munich and Roma have both been credited with interest in the 24-year-old with Crystal Palace also monitoring his situation. Chalobah is yet to feature under Pochettino having struggled with a thigh injury all season.
Ian Maatsen is another who could also be on the move.
Burnley failed in their bid to sign the full-back on a permanent basis during the summer transfer window with the Dutchman limited to just 130 minutes of Premier League action across nine appearances this season, all of those coming from the bench.
Borussia Dortmund are interested in bringing Maasten to the Wesfalenstadion but it remains to be seen whether they will be in a position to make a permanent offer in the New Year.
