Aston Villa 1-1 Manchester City Match Report: Erling Haaland’s 10th goal in six games was not enough to secure all 3 points for City at Villa Park. The home team relies on Leon Bailey’s 74-minute goal to pick a point against Pep Guardiola’s men.

The draw has denied City the opportunity to retake the top spot in the Premier League. Arsenal now sits at the top of the table with a game at hand and a point above the Cityzens.

With a goal in the second half at Villa Park, Haaland added to his back-to-back hat-tricks against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest. The Norwegian is now four goals ahead in the Premier League Top goalscorers table.

With a goal in the second-half at Villa Park, Haaland added to his back-to-back hat-tricks against Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest. The Norwegian is now four goals ahead in the Premier League Top goalscorers table. The game started on a slow tempo as the first half ended goalless. However, both teams started the second half of the game prepared to make a change in the scoreline.

Haaland again was on the scoresheet this weekend as he did well to convert Kevin De Bruyne’s amazing cross to put City ahead in the game.

Haaland and De Bruyne both missed opportunities to score a second goal. The Norway international was twice denied by Villa goalkeeper Emiliano Martinez and the Belgian hit the crossbar with a free kick.

However, in the 74th minute, Leon Bailey scored the equalizer for the home team following a low pass from Jacob Ramsey.

Despite a series of replays later proving he was onside, Villa’s substitute Philippe Coutinho felt he had handed them a startling lead before his effort from outside the area deflected in off the bottom of the bar.

Rodri missed a late opportunity for City to score, and Martinez stopped Phil Foden’s close-range attempt, but Villa hung on to avoid suffering a fourth straight league loss and earn manager Steven Gerrard a much-needed point.

While Manchester United and Arsenal play at Old Trafford on Sunday, Pep Guardiola’s team is trailing behind Arsenal by one point.

How City drew at Villa Park

Ollie Watkins of Villa came the closest just before halftime when his effort deflected off John Stones’ leaping tackle and went just beyond Ederson’s post. The first half was uneventful with neither side managing a shot on goal.

But five minutes into the second half, Haaland, who had scored for the fourth straight game, gave the visiting team the lead. The 22-year-old side-footed home at the far post after De Bruyne’s exquisite cross from the right wing went above Martinez’s reach.

At Villa Park, Erling Haaland scored his tenth goal in six games to give Man City the lead.

In the 58th minute, Villa had a chance to tie the score, but Ramsey’s heavy touch in one-on-one situations gave Ederson the opportunity to save at his feet.

Although Haaland was stopped by Martinez twice in the span of four minutes, City appeared to be the team most likely to score the following goal. In the 67th minute, De Bruyne initially hit the crossbar from a free kick well outside the penalty area before slamming wide following excellent link-up play with Haaland.

Bailey scored a beautiful first-time goal into the top corner of the net in the 74th minute, but City were penalized for failing to add a second.

Five minutes later, Coutinho appeared to give the home crowd the lead when he scored, but the linesman had already raised his flag for offside, and the referee had already blown his whistle.

The draw lifts Villa away from the relegation zone and into 17th place, while City tried to grab a late winner but was denied thereby losing points for the second time this season.

Haaland is joint-fastest to 10 Premier League goals.

Erling Haaland of Manchester City has already scored 10 goals in his first six Premier League appearances, which ties him with Mick Quinn from December 1992 for the fastest player to accomplish that feat. He joins Peter Beardsley, Jürgen Klinsmann, Francesco Baiano, and Alen Boksic as the only players in Premier League history to score in each of their first three away games.

Kevin De Bruyne of Man City has now provided 90 assists in the Premier League, making him the eighth player to achieve this milestone in the history of the league during what was his 216th game.

Aston Villa’s streak of seven straight losses to Man City came to an end; the only team they had lost to more frequently in this competition was Man United (run of 11 March 2008).

In their last three Premier League games in which they have scored first (W1 D2), Manchester City have now lost two games, one more than in their previous 31 such games in the competition (W30 D1).

Next, what?

Now, Gerrard must prepare for a meeting with Brendan Rodgers, who managed him at Liverpool and Celtic while the Englishman was in charge at Rangers.

Aston Villa will play Southampton on Friday, September 16, with kickoff set for 8 p.m, before traveling to Leicester on Saturday, September 10, for a 3 p.m. kickoff.

Rangers Youngster Sets Celtic Fans Alight with Bold Celebration in Epic Kilmarnock Moment!

In a Scottish Premiership clash that had fans on the edge of their seats, Rangers’ loanee Findlay Curtis turned heads with a cheeky celebration that has since gone viral online. The 19-year-old, on loan at Kilmarnock, was at the heart of the drama as his side surged into an early lead against fierce rivals Celtic at Rugby Park — and he didn’t hold back in celebrating it.

Curtis, deployed in a more advanced role for this fixture, made the most of his opportunity. After Tyreece John-Jules opened the scoring and Kilmarnock doubled their advantage, cameras caught the young winger raising his arms and gesturing in celebration directly in front of the Celtic supporters in the away end — a moment that instantly lit up social media.

Although his exuberant celebration was quickly cut short when veteran keeper Kasper Schmeichel ushered him away, the damage was done — pundits and fans alike have been talking about it ever since. That kind of on-field bravado in front of the rival support doesn’t happen every day, and it’s one that will stick in the minds of supporters on both sides.

Whether you see it as passionate football emotion or a bit of mind games, Curtis’ reaction added another unforgettable moment to a season already packed with drama and rivalry — showing once again why the Scottish Premiership never fails to entertain.

End of the Road at Parkhead? Andy Walker Drops Brutal Verdict on Celtic’s Japanese Duo

“Are Celtic’s Japanese Stars Past Their Best? Andy Walker Predicts End of the Road for Maeda & Hatate”

Recent pundit commentary has stirred fresh debate among fans of Celtic Football Club, with veteran analyst Andy Walker making bold claims about two of the team’s key Japanese players — Daizen Maeda and Reo Hatate. Walker’s verdict? This could be the final chapter at Parkhead for both players if they don’t turn their seasons around.

Struggles on the Pitch

Walker’s view stems from both men’s current dip in form. Hatate, normally a creative midfield presence, was recently scrutinised after a costly mistake led to a penalty for Livingston — and Walker suggested it might be time for him to lose his place temporarily in the starting XI to find confidence again.

Meanwhile, Maeda — who once electrified Scottish football with blistering pace and a PFA Player of the Year-winning season — has yet to recapture that spark this campaign. The forward is playing well below the high standards he set previously, and Walker believes both he and Hatate may have run their course at Celtic unless they rediscover their best form before the season ends.

Why This Matters

Walker’s assessment resonates beyond just match performance:

  • Maeda’s Blocked Transfer: Earlier in the season, Maeda openly admitted he wanted a move away — only for Celtic to block it — and pundits speculated this block may have affected his focus and sharpness.
  • Legacy and Timing: If both players fail to make a strong impact before the campaign’s conclusion, Walker argues their legacies at Celtic could be overshadowed by disappointment rather than remembered for their earlier success.

 The Bigger Picture

Celtic’s squad is at a crossroads. With new tactics, fresh faces and evolving expectations under manager Brendan Rodgers, long-serving players must justify their place or risk being phased out. Walker’s blunt but insightful commentary has sparked fresh debate among supporters over who should lead the club forward — and who’s time might be running out.
