Senegal vs Netherlands

Senegal will welcome the Netherlands ahead of their opening Group A game of the 2022 World Cup Tournament in Qatar. In accordance with the draws made by the football governing body FIFA earlier this year, Qatar who was the host nation was scheduled to kick off the tournament with a game against Ecuador. However, they made a U-turn moments later to draw Senegal vs Netherlands to be the first game to kick start the internationally-recognized tournament.

Senegal were crowned champions of the African Cup of Nations (AFCON 2022) after beating rivals Egypt 4-2 on penalties in the final game of the tournament.

Senegal standout player Sadio Mane also emerged as the African Player of the Year edging out his national teammate Eduard Mendy and former Liverpool teammate Mohamed Salah.

This summer, however, the tenacious Senegalese forward completed a move to German outfit Bayern Munich. His exit from Anfield came to many football lovers and fans of Liverpool FC as a shock and many were left in the dark as to why he left Liverpool for Bayern.

Many guessed it was payment related, however, according to a press conference by Skysports, Sadio Mane made it clear that his departure from Anfield was totally a result of his quest in search of a new challenge elsewhere and Allianz Arena happened to be his next destination.

What are the Expectations of Football fans?

The newest African best player of the year to trouble the Dutch defense will be the center of attention. Virgil van Dijk and former Liverpool teammate  Gerginio Widjnaldum will be present to make sure he was given no breathing space.

The Netherlands have been in great form lately, having won their last five games. Notable fixtures among their past five games are the one-all tie with Germany and the 4-1 triumph over Belgium. They recorded a total of 3 wins and 2 draws.

The Netherlands will be hoping for a great performance in the 2022 World Cup event after failing to make it to the competition in 2018. However, rivals  Senegal performed admirably enough to qualify for the 2018 World Cup hosted in Russia. Although their performance in the tournament was not good enough to secure them a place in the knockout stage. Alidou’s men finished third in Group H behind Colombia and Japan, who advanced to the knockout phase of the tournament.

When is Senegal vs Netherland Match?

According to the draws made, the game is slated to take place on November 21, 2022, 11:00 CET at the AI Thumama stadium Qatar. The match is going to be the first game of Group A and the opening game of the 2022 World Cup competition.

Group A can be seen as one of the toughest groups in the tournament as the Netherlands were grouped along with AFCON champions Senegal, Host nation Qatar, and Ecuador who seems to be the only underdog in the group.

In the opening day fixtures, there will be three more games to be played aside from the cracker between the Oranje boys and the Teranga Lions of Senegal. England have been drawn to battle Iran at 14:00 CET, while host nation Qatar will welcome Ecuador at 15:00 CET and the last match for the opening day will be the United State of America will slugging against Wales.

All group stage games will run until December 2, 2022, as Round 16 has been drawn to commence the next day December 3rd, 2022. Also, the 3rd and 4th place playoffs have been scheduled for December 17, 2022, while the final of the tournament will take place on December 18, 2022, which will literally bring the 2022 World Cup tournament to an end.

Once it comes to playing great football, Senegal is a tough nut to crack, and the African champions are prepared to battle the Netherlands in a bid to ensure an early plan to secure a place in the knockout stage of the competition and avoid a replica of what happened during their last outing in Russia.

Bayern’s latest signing Sadio Mane has been impressive since arriving at the Allianz Arena, and will definitely be available, fit, and prepared to cause havoc to the Dutch defense.

The world cup match in Qatar will feature notable players in Senegal’s team, the likes of Sadio Mane, Eduard Mendy, Sarr, Gueye, Kouyate, and Koulibaly, all of whom are healthy and ready to feature in the tournament.

Netherlands Team News

The Netherlands are a strong opponent in the 2022 World Cup campaign because they haven’t lost any of their past five games.

Senegal will have to put out a significant amount of effort to prevent the free-scoring Dutchs from doing what they know how to do best given that a number of their players are now competing in the top European leagues.

All of the following players are sound and ready to play: Memphis Depay, Tyrell Malacia, Frenkie de Jong, Dumfries, Mathias de Light, and Virgil Van Dijk.

Senegal Predicted Lineup

It seems the “god of soccer” wishes to favor the Senegal team as they currently have no serious injury worries in the team at the time of filing this report, and no doubt Senegal boss Aliou Ciss may end up featuring his best team against their major threat in the Group A, The Netherlands.

It will not be a surprise if Aliou Ciss plays a 4-3-3 formation which has been his favorite formation thus far, also considering the need to strengthen every part of his squad, from the defense line to the attack. Adequate caution is needed by the African team otherwise it may be a smooth ride for the Oranje boys.

Chelsea’s new signing Kalidou Koulibaly will again captain his Senegalese team at the 2022 World Cup in Qatar, and should he start the game from the bench, former Liverpool winger, Sadio Mane may likely captain the team.

Formation: 4-3-3

  • GK: Edouard Mendy
  • RB: Bouna Sarr
  • CB: Kalidou Koulibaly
  • CB: Abdou Diallo
  • LB: Saliou Ciss
  • RMF: Cheikhou Kouyate
  • CMF: Papy Mendy
  • LMF: Idrisa Gueye
  • RW: Ismaila Sarr
  • LW: Sadio Mane
  • FWD: Bamba Dieng

Netherlands Predicted Lineup

With no significant injury concerns, the Dutch team is likewise in fantastic shape and will start the competition with its strongest lineup. Louis Van Gaal, the manager of the Netherlands, is expected to use a 3-4-1-2 formation to try to win the tough battle against Senegal.

Memphis Depay, a prolific forward for Barcelona, will be the squad’s main player and be expected to frustrate the Senegal defensive line, while Virgil van Dijk, a top defender for Liverpool, will lead his team to success.

Formation: 3-4-1-2

  • GK: Jasper Cillessen
  • RB: Denzel Dumfries
  • CB: Virgil Van Dijk
  • LB: Matijs De Light
  • LMF: Steven Bergwijn
  • CMF: Davy Klaassen

โ€œChris Sutton Demands Celtic Act Fast โ€” Calls for Wilfried Nancy to Be Sacked After Rangers Humiliation!โ€

Celticโ€™s turbulent season took another dramatic turn this weekend โ€” and former Hoops striker Chris Sutton has made headlines by urging the club to move quickly on manager Wilfried Nancyโ€™s future after a damaging defeat to arch-rivals Rangers. Suttonโ€™s blunt comments have ignited fresh debate among fans and pundits about whether Celticโ€™s board should cut their losses and make a change at the top.

Pressure Mounts After Old Firm Loss

Celticโ€™s 3โ€“1 home defeat to Rangers was more than just another result โ€” it marked the clubโ€™s sixth loss in eight matches under Nancyโ€™s fledgling tenure, plunging supporters into frustration and sparking visible protests outside Celtic Park.

In the aftermath, Sutton didnโ€™t hold back. Taking aim at the clubโ€™s leadership, he urged the Celtic board to โ€œmove fast and be decisiveโ€ when evaluating Nancyโ€™s position, pointing to troubling defensive stats and a run of poor results as evidence that immediate action might be necessary.

Suttonโ€™s Stance: Time Is Running Out

Sutton highlighted an alarming trend โ€” 18 goals conceded in eight games, and a side that looks increasingly disjointed as the season progresses. In his eyes, staying the course with Nancyโ€™s current approach could make an already difficult situation even worse, and the responsibility now falls on the club hierarchy to make a tough decision before itโ€™s too late.

โ€œItโ€™s on whoever made the call to bring Wilfried in,โ€ Sutton said, suggesting that several questionable decisions have already hampered Celticโ€™s campaign โ€” and that waiting to act now could cost the club even more ground in the title race.

Fan Reaction: A Club Divided

The debate has spilled over into the fanbase, where opinions are sharply divided:

  • Some supporters echo Suttonโ€™s frustration, arguing that results have been unacceptable for a club of Celticโ€™s pedigree and that a managerial change could reinvigorate the season.
  • Others call for patience, reminding critics that Nancy inherited a squad in transition and may need time to instill his philosophy and build cohesion.
  • Meanwhile, protests outside the stadium reflect how raw tensions have become among Celticโ€™s most passionate fans.

Nancyโ€™s Position: Calm Amidst Chaos

Despite the growing noise and public criticism, Nancy himself has maintained a composed front. He has insisted he isnโ€™t afraid of losing his job, acknowledged supportersโ€™ disappointment, and expressed belief that his team can still turn things around โ€” pointing to moments of solid play and areas of promise in recent performances.

Nancyโ€™s confidence, even amid mounting pressure, highlights the stark contrast between pundit calls for action and the managerโ€™s own faith in his methods.

Boardโ€™s Dilemma: Back or Sack?

For Celticโ€™s leadership, the situation presents a classic dilemma:

โœ” Back Nancy and allow him time to implement his vision, hoping for a mid-season turnaround.

โœ” Cut ties now and appoint someone who might inject confidence and momentum back into the squad.

With Rangers closing in and Hearts looming in the title race, the decision wonโ€™t be easy โ€” and every match from here on will be scrutinized through the lens of this controversy.

What Happens Next

As Celtic prepares for upcoming fixtures, the pressure cooker around Parkhead shows no sign of letting up. Whether the board listens to voices like Suttonโ€™s or stands firm behind Nancy, one thing is certain:

This saga has become one of the defining storylines of Celticโ€™s season โ€” and its outcome could shape the clubโ€™s future far beyond the current campaign.

qatar 0-2 ecuador

The opening game of the 2022 World Cup played out a short time ago and it ended Qatar 0-2 Ecuador.

Hosts Qatar kicked off the tournament with a clash against Ecuador on Sunday afternoon.

Despite being the hosts, Qatar were not expected to make it out of their group.

But if they wanted to stand any chance of doing so, they needed to pick up a win against Ecuador, who are arguably their easiest test.

But when all was said and done, Qatar fell to defeat.

Ecuador thought they had took the lead within three minutes. Qatarโ€™s goalkeeper left his line and then missed the ball, allowing Enner Valencia to fire into an open net.

However, VAR ruled the goal out for a reason nobody could really work out.

Qatar then gave away a penalty 14 minutes in and Ecuador took the lead this time.

After the opener, Ecuador continued to dominate possession whilst limiting Qatarโ€™s attacking threat.

Valencia then added a second 31 minutes in with a sensational header.

The first 45 drew to a close with Ecuador 2-0 up and in full control of the match.

Ecuador were then fairly happy to take their foot off the gas somewhat in the second 45, still controlling the game but not creating as much.
