Mikel Arteta can finally unleash dream Arsenal attack consistently as title reality emerges
Mikel Arteta has been prevented from unleashing dream Arsenal attack until now which explains goal problems
Therefore why has there been such a dip this season? I think there are multiple reasons but perhaps the most obvious has been staring the majority of Arsenal supporters in the face for the bulk of the season.
The 2-2 draw with Chelsea might not have been the best performance, however, it was the first match in which Arsenal’s best-attacking front three were able to start a game. Saka, Jesus and Martinelli are clearly the best front three the club have at their disposal with fantastic depth in Leandro Trossard, Kai Havertz and Emile Smith Rowe to name just a few.
Jesus missed the start of the season with a reoccurrence of a knee issue, Martinelli suffered a hamstring problem at Everton whilst even the usually reliable Saka has faced a number of problems which has stunted any momentum on his part from being built. Odegaard hasn’t been able to contribute as frequently as perhaps he’d like with a noticeable difference in his role, dropping deeper perhaps in the absence of what Xhaka brought last season.
The Arsenal squad has been in a state of flux throughout the campaign as Arteta deals with the changing availability of his players. With nearly all of the starting XI finally looking like they’re ready to play, hopefully, in the next run of fixtures the manager can find some consistency from his side as they navigate Carabao Cup and Champions League commitments too.
It’s also worth noting that in the first nine games of last season, Arsenal played three of the other big five clubs in the league – Manchester United, Liverpool and Spurs. Whereas, this season they have faced four, including Manchester City and none of the promoted teams either.
Arsenal remain joint on points with City and yet there’s plenty of criticism around for what the side is or isn’t doing. Imagine when it starts going well!
