Liverpool 9-0 Bournemouth Report: Liverpool whitewashed the newly promoted Bournemouth team with a 9-goal demolition at Anfield. This is the highest winning ever for Liverpool in the Premier League.

It was a rain of goals at Anfield on Saturday afternoon when Liverpool hosted Bournemouth in the fourth game of the English Premier League season.

Liverpool has not had a good start to the season having drawn 2 matches and lost 1. Before the game, they were 16^th on the Premier League table and were hopeful of a win against Bournemouth.

It is no longer news that Jurgen Klopp’s side has been hit with a series of injury worries as 9 players from the squad are currently out injured and new signing Darwin Nunez is also serving a three-match ban after picking a red card in their game against Crystal Palace.

Liverpool boss made just one change to the squad that was defeated by Manchester United on Monday having introduced Fabinho to start ahead of James Milner.

The game started with Liverpool mounting pressure on the visiting Bournemouth team, it took less than 3 minutes for Luis Diaz to open the scoreline, Roberto Firminho’s cross met the winger in the opponent’s box and the former FC Porto man did well to nod it into the net, it, however, took Harvey Elliot another 3 minutes to make it 2-0.

Goals from Roberto Firminho, Alexander-Arnold, and Van Dijk made it 5-0 at half-time. This is the first time in history that Liverpool scored 4 goals in the first half of a game. History was made today!

A minute into the second half, Chris Mepham converted a cross into his own net in a bid to hinder Luis Diaz from scoring. With less than half an hour to the end of the game, Roberto Firminho scored his second, to make it 7-0.

Ten minutes to the end of the game, it was a connection of the substitutes as Kostas Tsimikas pick out Fabio Carvalho, who made a clinical finish to make it 8-0.

Luis Diaz grabbed his brace with 5 minutes left to the end of the game as assisted by Kostas Tsimikas once again. And it ended 9-0 at Anfield, a scoreline the Reds have never witnessed in history.

One thing that football lovers and Liverpool fans could say boosted the squad was the introduction of Fabinho at the defensive midfield instead of James Milner. During the game at Old Trafford, many wondered if Fabinho was injured or why he was on the bench while Milner starts such a crucial game.

During the game, one could see coordination in the defensive midfield and a good build-up, as Fabinho is one dogged player that will never see an opponent get an easy passage to the defenders. Also, oftentimes, Milner overlapped against Man United, but that was not the case for Fabinho against Bournemouth.

Also, Liverpool’s boss picked the right time to substitute his players, the introduction of Fabio Carvalho, Kostas Tsimikas, and James Milner brought reinforcement to the already-worn-out players on the pitch.

GK: Alisson Becker – 8/10

Alison ensured no goal was scored at Anfield. The Brazilian had little or no worries as he maintained steady communication with his defensive line.

RB: Trent Alexander-Arnold – 9/10

Arnold had a goal and a clean sheet too. Despite mounting the defense line ensuring a goal is not conceded, Arnold was also alert to make attacking contributions.

CB: Joe Gomez – 8/10

Gomez had a clean sheet at Anfield. He was also on guard eliminating every form of threat in his wing.

CB: Virgil Van Dijk – 8/10

The big Virg got a goal and a clean sheet. Incredibly, he is still unbeaten at Anfield. Van Dijk made an error in their defeat to Man United on Monday and was on guard to avert a repeat of a similar incident.

LB: Andy Robertson – 8/10

Agile, defended well, and also linked up perfectly with Diaz on the left wing. He had an assist and a clean sheet.

DM: Fabinho – 9/10

The solid wall was on guard to ensure the defense do not have any serious threat. His absence at the beginning of the game at Old Trafford cost Liverpool greatly and led to their first defeat of the season.

DM: Jordan Henderson – 8/10

Henderson combined with Fabinho to ensure the defense line got the necessary support they needed and also help in building the ball from the back connecting with the players up front.

The most lively player on the pitch, with great movement, great passes, and great goals. He netted a brace in the game. He scored the opening goal and the last goal of the game. Such an incredible performance by the former Porto man.

RW: Mohamed Salah – 8/10

He was the unfortunate man in the game, though they won 9-0 yet, he had no goals and no assists but was actively involved in the game

FWD: Roberto Firminho – 10/10

Firminho was the Man of the Match today. The Brazilian was on fire as he scored a brace and also had a hat-trick of assists. He was simply exceptional today and we hope to see more of such performance in the league.

Substitutes:

CMF: Fabio Carvalho – 8/10

Carvalho came in in the 68^th minute and he was sleeky and dangerous as usual. A few minutes into the game he netted a great volley. Such a vibrant and promising player for the team.

DM: James Milner – 7/10

The Old man was still on the pitch today to witness the baptism of fire on the visiting Bournemouth team.

LB: Kostas Tsimikas – 7/10

He was introduced in the 68^th minute and made two assists down the left wing. The young lad is a great threat to Andy Robertson in the starting XI.

CMF: Stefan Bajcetic – 7/10

It was his debut game in the Premier League and indeed it was a good way to mark a debut game with a 9-0 victory. It is a morale booster for the young lad and we hope to see more of him in the Premier League this season.

Wout van Aert kende een dramatische afloop aan de cross in Mol, maar ook Mathieu van der Poel kwam niet ongeschonden uit deze wedstrijd. De Nederlander had het bijzonder koud, en kwam zelf eerder ook ten val. Vader Adrie zag daar een probleem.

Nochtans maakte Van der Poel duidelijk dat hij geen schade heeft overgehouden aan zijn tuimeling: “Eigenlijk viel ik zelfs nog zacht”, aldus de Nederlander. “Ik kreeg gewoon mijn voet niet uit mijn klikpedaal in het zand, waardoor ik stomweg omviel. Maar ik heb er gelukkig geen last van.”

Zo zag vader Adrie het echter niet tijdens de wedstrijd. In een interview met Sporza stelde hij immers dat Van der Poel last ondervond van zijn eerdere valpartij, eerder nog dan van de koude. Al voegde Adrie er ook wel aan toe dat zijn zoon niet bepaald staat te springen voor een koers in de sneeuw.

Van der Poel viseert enkel de koude

Reken daarbij nog de haast ondragelijke koude, en we kregen een verkleumde Van der Poel te zien na de finish. In zijn interviews achteraf stond hij nog steeds te bibberen, en maakte de wereldkampioen duidelijk dat hij behoorlijk hard had afgezien.

“Het was geen aangename cross. Ik heb het nu al een beetje warmer, maar ik heb zeker veel koud geleden vandaag”, luidde het bij MVDP. “Je weet ook dat wanneer je nadien weer opwarmt, het vijf minuten echt veel pijn gaat doen. Met dat gevoel was ik de laatste rondes al bezig.”

Voor Van der Poel was de conclusie dan ook duidelijk: “Dit was de moeilijkste wedstrijd van het jaar. Na een tijd hadden mijn handen en voeten zo veel koud dat het niet meer vanzelf ging.” Nu maar hopen dat vader Adrie toch geen gelijk krijgt over een mogelijke blessure, die door onderkoeling mogelijk onder de radar zou zijn gebleven.
