What Mason Greenwood said that got him sent off in Getafe v Rayo Vallecano
It has been revealed what Manchester United’s Mason Greenwood said to get himself sent off in the La Liga clash between Getafe and Rayo Vallecano.
Greenwood was shown a straight red card on Tuesday night for dissent as his side were beaten 2-0 at home.
The Englishman joined Getafe side on a seaon-loan from United in August following an internal club investigation into his conduct.
It came after charges of attempted rape, assault and coercive control against the striker were dropped in February following his arrest the previous year.
Since joining Getafe on a season-long loan, Greenwood has been playing consistently after 18 months off the pitch, scoring five times and providing four assists in his first 16 appearances for the Spanish side.
But he was shown his first red card for the club on Tuesday in the 50th minute after for swearing at referee Jorge Figueroa Vasquez.
‘In the 50th minute the player (12) Greenwood, Mason Will John, was sent off for the following reason: For addressing me in a sign of protest and raising his arm, in the following terms: “F*** you”,’ read the the official’s post-match report.
‘Once sent off, he takes the finger to the temple making a repeated gesture as a sign of disagreement with the decision made.’
Greenwood, though, has insisted that he was saying ‘F***’s sake!’ rather than swearing at the referee.
Meanwhile, it is reported that the 22-year-old has attracted transfer interest from both Atletico Madrid and Barcelona.
