Warren Zaire-Emery played a crucial role in central midfield, scoring Paris Saint-Germain’s second and turning in another composed performance to lead his side to a comfortable 3-0 win. His second half strike, as well as well-worked goals from Lee Kang-in and Vitinha saw the Parisians brush aside Montpellier.
PSG almost went behind early, but a last-ditch slide from Nordi Mukiele prevented early embarrassment. And they soon capitalised. Achraf Hakimi darted down the right before cutting the ball back to Lee, who hit the top corner with a fine effort. Kylian Mbappe almost made it two shortly after, but skewed a volley slightly outside the post.
They established a 2-0 lead 15 minutes into the second half. Ousmane Dembele provided the pass — a deft backheel into the path of Zaire-Emery. And the youngster finished, sending the goalkeeper the wrong way with a driven effort from close range.
Vitinha added the decisive third, sweeping a Hakimi cutback into the far corner from the top of the box. It rounded out a solid showing from the hosts, who will momentarily top Ligue 1 after picking up a valuable three points.
Gianluigi Donnarumma
Called into action after 60 seconds. A spectator otherwise.
Achraf Hakimi
Grabbed himself two assists on the night, both of which came on perfectly weighted crosses. In fine form at the moment.
Marquinhos
Went about his business well for 70 minutes before being given a rest.
Milan Skriniar
A composed performance in the centre of defence. Still short of his best, but his understanding with Marquinhos is always improving.
Nordi Mukiele
Started a league game for the first time since March. Looked a bit rusty at times. Good to get some minutes under his belt.
Won his tackles, distributed the ball well. Really growing into a more possession-based side.
Warren Zaire-Emery
A classy performance in central midfield. Controlled the game, moved the ball at the right times, and took his goal emphatically. What a player.
Ousmane Debele
Lots of impressive runs and sharp cuts, and nothing was working for him. Then, he produced a wonderful backheel assist — a contrast that sums him up.
Randal Kolo Muani
Struggled to get involved, and most of the game passed him by. Still hasn’t found a groove in Paris. Removed after an hour.
Kylian Mbappe
A nice dummy set up his side’s opener. Fired narrowly wide in the first half. Put one just over in the second. Not his day, but the goals will come.
Lee Kang-in
Took his goal wonderfully, was full of energy and caused problems due to his impressive dribbling ability. Now has two in three. Seems a promising signing.
Vitinha
Scored almost immediately after coming on. Making a push for a starting role.
Goncalo Ramos
Ran a lot, offered some attacking quality. Needs a goal, though.
Lucas Hernandez
No time to make an impact.
Carlos Soler
No time to make an impact.
Fabian
Had a nice effort saved.
Luis Enrique
Went with a 4-2-2-2 formation to start, switched to a 4-3-3 after the break, and his side pretty much dominated the game throughout. Three great goals, solid at the back. He will have very little to complain about.
